About

At Kids by Design preschool, we are committed to developing a child’s love for learning and a sense of purpose in life. We achieve this by cultivating positive growth in your child’s Character, Confidence, Competence, Compassion, and a sense of Community toward others.

Children are born with a natural wonder for the world they live in, and our goal is to encourage that curiosity in a child-led, play-based environment.

At Kids By Design Preschool, children are given many opportunities to freely interact with their peers. This fosters the positive social skills and friendships which are important for building a child’s self-confidence. Children will expand their learning concepts through individual and group exploration. They will be given the freedom to achieve new skills at their own pace while gaining a sense of personal competence. Children will also explore different cultures and communities by participating in various field trips and projects. These activities will help to cultivate greater compassion toward others and their understanding of the world around them.

All these aspects are implemented through a combination of thematic and emergent curriculum, where the teachers and students work together to extend their classroom learning.

OUR STAFF

Sandra Tan

My name is Sandra Tan. I am the owner and teacher at Kids By Design Preschool. I have been teaching in the ECE field for 6 years but have been working with children for over 10 years. I have a background as an Early Childhood Educator, Kindermusik teacher and office administrator. My passion is to inspire a generation of life-long learners who are enthusiastic about learning because it is fun, interesting and meaningful. As a preschool teacher, I have the privilege of seeing how this process takes place through the eyes of your children. It is truly an honour to be part of your child’s first introduction to school life in the early formative years.

I am happily married to my wonderful husband for 16 years and we have two beautiful children, aged 12 and 10. As a family, we love music, camping, dancing, creating art projects and seeking new activities to try. Over this past summer, we went ziplining, speed-boating, tree top adventure climbing and mountain off-roading! I even climbed the Grouse Grind for the first time in 21 years!

I look forward to creating new and memorable experiences with your children this year and am thankful to have an amazing group of teachers to teach alongside. Thank you for entrusting your children to our care and I am anticipating an exciting year of learning for all of us!

Amanda Martin

My name is Amanda and I am an educator at heart! I began my formal education    in Alberta and earned a degree in education with a focus on early childhood and a minor in developmental psychology. When I moved to BC, licensing required a renewal of my Early Childhood Educator credentials, and so I have recently had a refresher of all things ECE! After approximately 15 years in the field, I find myself keenly passionate about growing emotional intelligence and self-awareness in individuals, and this finds its foundations in the early years. I enjoy developing curriculum in response to children’s natural interests and experiences of the world around them. Some of my favourite ways of incorporating my personality into curriculum involve bringing a sense of the silly, using drama and acting, music, movement, and stories.

I love writing, music, theatre, sushi, puppies and being outdoors! I am a preschool teacher by day and a children and youth pastor by night. In the midst of all of that, I am also the overjoyed mother of a fantastic little girl entering grade 1. Most of all, I am excited to undergo the journey of learning in an early school environment with you and your family!

Annie Addison

Hi! My name is Annie. I am a licensed Early Childhood Educator and I have been in this field for over 28 years. I had the pleasure of being at my last preschool for 21 years. I decided to move on to take an opportunity to be a college instructor for the Early Childhood program at a private college. I was there for a year and a half when I realized that my true passion is being hands on with children.

I am a mother of 2 grown up children with families of their own making me the proudest grandmother ever!!! I am known as “Nonna” to my 6 beautiful grandkids ranging from newborn (Aug.21, 2015) to 7 years old and 2 more on the way. My husband and I have been married for 37 years. We enjoy spending time with our children and grandkids, we like to go camping off grid, sailing and canning some of our homegrown fruits and vegetables. I enjoy crafts, knitting, crocheting and puzzles.

I am very excited to be a part of the Kids by Design family. I look forward to getting to know your child, you and your family.
